About the Book
My House in the Sky is a tender, imaginative picture book about a young girl learning to hold onto love and memory when life changes. Moving between two homes—one red, one blue—she creates a third, magical space all her own: a floating purple house filled with joy, memories, and hope.
This story opens a gentle doorway for parents, teachers, and therapists to talk about change, separation, family transitions, and healing—reminding kids that joy can live in their imagination, and in their hearts, no matter where they are. Even in shifting times, there’s always room for the good things.
"Only the good things — I promise."

Jeff Tedd Bock - Author
Jeff Tedd Bock is a writer and storyteller who grew up in the wilds of North Idaho—in a brown house. My House in the Sky is his debut picture book, inspired by meaningful conversations and magical moments while raising his daughter. They now live in Los Angeles in a yellow house… though they’re thinking about painting it purple.

AUTHOR'S NOTE
When families change, it can be hard for children to understand what it all means. Separation often brings big emotions—uncertainty, sadness, even excitement for something new. But for many children, one of the hardest parts is figuring out where they truly belong.
I wrote My House in the Sky in hopes of better understanding what my daughter experienced being a child of divorce at a young age, and to remind children (and adults) that no matter how life shifts around them, love and memories never disappear. They live on, always close, always safe. This story is about imagination, resilience, and the comforting idea that children can create their own special place—a place where they feel secure, surrounded by the best parts of their past, and open to the new joys ahead.
If you’re reading this with a child, I hope it sparks conversations about love, change, and the many ways families grow. Ask them: What would your house in the sky look like? What special things would you keep there? Sometimes, giving children space to imagine helps them express what’s in their hearts. And that's a very special, very magical place, indeed.
Above all, I want every child (and adult) who reads this book to know: No matter where you are, no matter what changes, you are always loved. You will always belong, and you will always be home, because your true house in the sky... is forever in your heart.

ILLUSTRATOR'S NOTE
I truly connected with Jeff's journey and how his daughter navigated her parents' divorce, adapting to new environments and life changes with resilience. While it can be challenging and confusing at first, I believe it also opens the door to growth, new beginnings, and deeper understanding, which I tried to translate into illustrations and scenes of each "different" home.
As a child, I was passionate about horseback riding and often found joy and escape in that world. I wanted to create a space where you could feel safe, joyful, and supported, just like I did in those moments of confusion. With time, we come to appreciate the beauty of different life spaces and realize that love and family can thrive in two homes.
My hope was to create a sense of calm and reassurance with both parents involved and their living spaces, along with a feeling of serenity and joy in doing the things you love in your own time. Ultimately, these wonderful moments with your parents in two different homes come together to form one heart full of love and special memories.
